The mathematics one learns in Finance Department is completely useless(the current situation in our country). In fact it is not math at all! Just think about what math we can learn in finance department: only capable of calculating some integrals, computing some distributions etc. Are they math?
If one really want to handle quant finance, try to learn the courses in math department from the beginning. This is my own experience. I studlied finance as undergraduate, but changed to math as graduate. I think that is enough to support for what I claim.
